Scientists Discover Swirling Spirals in the Brain

Scientists from the University of Sydney and Fudan University have found human brain signals traveling across the outer layer of neural tissue that naturally arrange themselves to resemble swirling spirals.

Published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour, the study suggests that these widespread spiral patterns, seen during both rest and cognitive activity, play a role in organizing brain function and cognitive processes.

These spiral patterns exhibit intricate and complex dynamics, moving across the brain’s surface while rotating around central points known as phase singularities.

Phase singularities are zeros in a complex scalar field—regions of darkness surrounded by light. These singularities are ubiquitous in complex wave systems.

Much like vortices act in turbulence, the spirals engage in intricate interactions, playing a crucial role in organizing the brain’s complex activities.

The location of the spirals on the cortex could allow them to connect activity in different sections, or networks, of the brain – acting as a bridge of communication. Many of the spirals are large enough to cover multiple networks.

The cortex of the brain, also known as the cerebral cortex, is the outermost layer of the brain that is responsible for many complex cognitive functions, including perception, memory, attention, language, and consciousness.

Through their rotational motion, they effectively coordinate the flow of activity between these networks.

In their research, the scientist observed that these interacting brain spirals allow for flexible reconfiguration of brain activity during various tasks involving natural language processing and working memory, which they achieve by changing their rotational directions.

Cerebral Cortex

The #1 gene associated with the cerebral cortex is called Doublecortin (DCX Gene).

Doublecortin directs neuronal migration by regulating the organization and stability of microtubules. Malfunctions in this gene cause abnormal migration of neurons during development and disrupt the layering of the cortex, leading to epilepsy, cognitive disability, subcortical band heterotopia ("double cortex" syndrome) in females and lissencephaly ("smooth brain" syndrome) in males.

Lissencephaly is a set of rare brain disorders whereby the whole or parts of the surface of the brain appear smooth.

This is because “Frequency Determines Physiology”, and without the proper dispersion of these spiral waves across the brain, the brain fails to develop correctly leading to a “smooth brain”, instead of what a normal brain may look like with its complex ridges. These ridges are evidence of wave particle dispersion. They literally imprint their patterns onto the brain. Much like water makes its mark on rock formations. Water plays a role in the formation of most sedimentary rock. It is one of the main agents involved in creating the minerals in chemical sedimentary rock.

Reeling in the Corti Signal

Reelin, encoded by the RELN gene, is a large secreted extracellular matrix glycoprotein that helps regulate processes of neuronal migration and positioning in the developing brain by controlling cell–cell interactions. Besides this important role in early development, reelin continues to work in the adult brain. It modulates synaptic plasticity by enhancing the induction and maintenance of long-term potentiation. It also stimulates dendrite and dendritic spine development and regulates the continuing migration of neuroblasts generated in adult neurogenesis sites like the subventricular and subgranular zones. It is found not only in the brain but also in the liver, thyroid gland, adrenal gland, Fallopian tube, breast and in comparatively lower levels across a range of anatomical regions.

Reelin has been suggested to be implicated in pathogenesis of several brain diseases. The expression of the protein has been found to be significantly lower in schizophrenia and psychotic bipolar disorder. Total lack of reelin causes a form of Lissencephaly, or “smooth brain”. Reelin may also play a role in Alzheimer's disease, temporal lobe epilepsy and autism.
The primary phenotype associated with loss of reelin function is a failure of neuronal positioning throughout the developing central nervous system (CNS).

The Reelin gene interacts with another gene called Siah-1 (Seven In Absentia Homolog 1) Siah is of Hebrew origin and means "Josiah which means 'God heals' or Jehovah heals. Therefore Siah means 'healing'"; “God's gift- name shortened after Messiah”; “Healer of darkness!!! King of the light"; “'black', 'healer', 'darkness', and 'void'; "shachor," meaning "black" or "dark."

Absentia means “Absent”. To be absent from the body is to be present with God.

Dark Matter and Dark Energy

The cosmic microwave background might be attributable to thermalization by “cosmic dust” in the form of hollow, spherical shells of high dielectric constant, similar to that of a microtubule.

The spherical “shells” and “filamentary” H2O molecules, coupled with the strong absorption of THz radiation, satisfy the conditions proposed to be “cosmic dust”, or “dark energy”.

Water masers, typically found in dense molecular clouds associated with supermassive black holes at the centers of nearby galaxies have recently been observed to have this same phenomenon.

Development of the Cerebral Cortex

Reelin is the primary gene involved with Corticogenesis. Corticogenesis is the process during which the cerebral cortex of the brain is formed.
The word “Corti” literally means; “court; enclosure; garden”.

The Spiral Organ of Corti located in the inner ear is related to all of this as well because its job is to transmit signals, waves, or spirals.

Reports link reelin's genetic variation and interactions to schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, autism and other highly complex dysfunctions. These and other discoveries are coupled with the perspective of unraveling the evolutionary changes that allowed for the creation of human brain. Reelin may also ensure correct neuronal positioning in the spinal cord.

Related to this spiral nature of our anatomy, researches from MIT also have documented these spirals in a fertilized egg.

Their research showed ripples across a newly fertilized egg are similar to other systems, from ocean and atmospheric circulations to quantum fluids.

EXACTLY what takes place in every aspect of our cellular biology as well as the very structure of the entire UNIVERSE!
